HB Public Law is a large specialist law practice in local government providing the full range of legal services to the London Boroughs of Barnet, Harrow, Hounslow, and Slough Borough Council. The practice is hosted by the London Borough of Harrow, where its main offices are located and staff are employed by this authority.

HB Public Law is recruiting into their Employment and Housing & Civil litigation teams. There are a number of live roles at junior and senior levels, reflecting continued growth and demand across the service.

Employment

Available roles:

  • Senior Lawyer/Lawyer | £46,563 - £54,843 (Pay award pending)

Our team provides legal advice on a range of employment matters and legal representation in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal with an extremely high success rate.

We deal with contentious and non-contentious employment issues for local authorities, community schools, academies and partner organisations.

For contentious work, our in-house team of advocates represents clients in both the employment tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Non-contentious work includes a wide range of matters, including disciplinary and grievance issues, unfair dismissal, discrimination and equality, drafting of employment contracts and policies & procedures, equal pay, redundancy and reorganisation, TUPE, whistleblowing, industrial relations and negotiating and drafting settlement agreements.

We offer training on the full range of employment law issues to staff, school governors and members. Training can be tailored to specific client requirements.

Housing & Civil Litigation

Available roles:

We advise and represent clients in a wide range of housing litigation matters, including insurance work, commercial and contractual disputes, injunctions and judicial reviews.

We are experienced in dealing with housing litigation cases from county court level all the way through to the European Court of Justice. We undertake advocacy in contested trials, committal proceedings, tribunal and criminal courts, and have preferential barrister fees through the London Boroughs Legal Alliance.

We work on possession and related claims due to a wide range of factors including rent arrears, under occupation, illegal occupation, nuisance and criminal activities, and tenancies gained by deception. We also deal with criminal and civil actions to tackle housing fraud.

We advise on homelessness issues such as section 204 Housing Act appeals and defending judicial review claims relating to homelessness. We advise on and seek court injunctions including urgent/same day injunctions and anti-social behaviour injunctions (ASBIs) and orders (ASBOs) and those for unlawful use of premises including obtaining exclusion orders and powers of arrest. We also defend and advise on disrepair claims, including quantum.

We offer bespoke and practical training on all areas of Housing Law, and can also provide an advice surgery for initial queries.
